About this journey

Who I am

I was born and raised in Bangkok, the daughter of two chemical engineers who taught me to be curious about how the world is put together. I became an orthopedic surgeon, and by my early twenties I had already performed hundreds of surgeries — work that taught me patience, precision, and a deep respect for careful preparation. I met my husband in Salt Lake City, and today we make our home in the Washington, DC area.

How I travel

I plan every trip with great care, often months in advance — reading the history, learning the transit maps, understanding a place before we arrive so that, once we are there, we can let go and simply be present. I love ancient civilizations and museums, diverse cultures, public transit over taxis, and, above all, wonderful food. I would rather understand a place than collect it.

What this site is for

This is not a travel brand and I am not trying to impress anyone. I made this site to share the journeys my family has loved, in the hope that something here — a small tip, a way of seeing, a meal worth seeking out — helps you plan a trip of your own with a little more ease and a little more wonder.

A note about the family

I travel with my husband and our son, and the three of us are the whole story here. Much of what I have learned about traveling well, I have learned by trying to show our son a world worth being curious about. If these pages carry any spirit at all, I hope it is that one.
